17-Inch Stepless Dimming Clamp Desk Lamp

Why this one

The widest light in this guide: a 17 in bar on a gooseneck that reaches over a monitor, dimmable from 1 to 100 percent, with an aluminium body and a claimed 60,000 hour LED life. It is corded - a 5V/3A adapter comes with it - so it is a desk lamp, not a portable one. The listing prints 35 in overall height and a 31 in working height without explaining the difference, and gives no lumen, wattage or CRI figure at all, so brightness has to be judged from the bar length.

What it had to clear

• 17 in lamp bar with 100 LEDs, so one lamp covers a whole desk
• metal clamp that opens to 2.36 in on the edge
• corded - a 5V/3A adapter is included, so this is not battery power
